Signs you've got mosquitos.
Bites
Itchy red bites on arms, legs, or ankles, especially mornings and evenings.
Larvae
Wriggling larvae in standing water show active breeding close to home.
Standing water
Puddles, clogged gutters, or water-filled containers nearby mean breeding grounds.
Outdoor disruption
Backyard fun cut short by swarms buzzing around at dusk.
Helpful tips.
1. Eliminate standing water
Dump out buckets, birdbaths, toys, and other containers that collect rainwater. Even a small amount can become a mosquito nursery.
2. Cover arms and legs
When spending time outside, especially in the evening, wear long sleeves and pants to cut down on exposed skin.
3. Use screens on windows and doors
Make sure your window and door screens are snug and free of tears to keep mosquitoes from slipping inside.
4. Apply mosquito repellent
Use EPA-approved repellents on skin and clothing when outdoors. It adds an extra layer of protection against bites.
5. Don’t overwater lawn
Mosquitoes thrive in damp soil. Water in the morning and avoid oversoaking to keep the ground from staying soggy.
6. Change outdoor water weekly
Replace water in birdbaths, pet bowls, and kiddie pools at least once a week to prevent mosquito breeding.
